Parent Involvement

Parents can play many roles in sport: current or former athlete, coach, fan, motivator, role model or critic. A few studies have shown that family members may influence an athlete’s involvement and achievement in sport more than coaches. Parents also are the first and most critical agents at socializing sports.

Please be aware of the Player/Parent Commitment that was signed at the beginning of the year:

  1. Players are to be at practices/games, ready and dressed on time. Players are expected to be at all practices and tournaments unless you have a valid reason and have notified your coach at least 24 hours in advance.
  2. Players / Parents shall display good sportsmanship at all times.
  3. I understand that TVC is a commitment and will be at as many if not all practices and games.
  4. Players shall respect the property of others, including equipment and TVC facilities.
  5. If an issue should arise in regards to playing time or coaching philosophy, the first conversation must be between player and coach. If the issue still cannot be resolved, parents may contact the club director and set up a meeting.  This meeting must take place outside of practices and tournaments.
  6. As a Timberlake Volleyball Parent/Guardian, it is expected that you:
  • Treat all participants with respect, being positive and constructive at all times to players, coaches and other spectators.
  • Treat all officials with respect, recognizing that volleyball rules involve judgment.  Criticizing the officials or participants during the course of the game will not be tolerated.
  • Do not use abusive or profane language or gestures.
  • Remember that children participate to have fun and compete to the best of their ability and that the game is for youth, not adults.
  • Contact the club director if you have concerns regarding your own daughter, officials, coaches, or any other concern regarding TVC.  It is not appropriate to discuss playing time with coaches or director at tournaments.
  • Support your childs commitment to the team by assuring her attendance at practices and games.  Please notify the coach if your child is unable to attend a practice or tournament ahead of time.
  • Refrain from coaching your child or other players during games and practices, unless you are one of the official coaches of the team.
